The Gates Close – Peace Returns to the Manor

It was after the midnight hour when the eerie but calm silence fell over the manor. The strange creatures and the things which had slithered out of their graves had long since returned into the darkness from whence they crawled. The last of the Jack-O-Lanterns had burned out and a cool breeze swept through the streets.

It was no more than an hour ago and it seemed as though the storm would never end. A thunderous chanting had been heard from deep within the manor. Dogs bayed for miles around. As the chanting continued so did the storm both increasing in intensity with each passing crash of thunder. The ground rumbled as an intense beam of a sickly greenish color spiraled upwards from the shaken manor. The ground shook again and the beam flickered in intensity.

An orange and green mist arose from the grounds of the manor and ran into the streets. No one could say what the mist was but it carried with it an unbarable and sickly odor. One could almost pick out the sweet scent of rotting candy, cinnamon, and nutmeg accompanied by the odor of gym shorts and burning flesh mixed with the stench of milk that had been spoiling in the sun for weeks. It was foul and unpleasant. The mist reached out like tentrils and seemed to seek out all that was representative of the former night’s harrowing. Each that it touched went dark and then it moved on to the next. This continued throughout the evening as the storm raged on. Then as quickly and as quietly as the mist rolled out it dissapated into nothingness.

The beam flickered again and once more the chanting rose. Above the manor the mist could be seen again this time swirling around the flickering beam. The chanting was soon answered by a darker and more malevolent voice, one that could not be identified as even remotely of this world. The hairs of those who were unfortunate enough to hear it stood on end. The chanter’s voice immediately became commanding and the new darker voice grew defiant. The two voice continued to bicker for what seemed like an eternity each growing louder with each command and act of resistance.

The spiraling beam grew in intensity once more turning a pale shade of yellow and began absorbing the spiraling mist. And for only a moment one could almost mistake the faint echo of fear in the tone of that dark alien voice. A final command issued forth from the chanter and the beam became a blinding ray of white radiant light that could be seen for miles. An unearthly wail came from within the manor so terrifying and alien that it sent the baying dogs cowering with their tails between legs under nearby beds or into their masters shivering arms. And as quickly as it began the beam faded into the night and the storm ended leaving only a calm quiet cool wind behind.

Grey remnants of the mist blew off in the gentle breeze and the serene manor now looked peaceful in the moonlit night. It was over. The gate had been shut and sealed. The things that lurked in the shadows will haunt here no more…

It’s been five years since the first shadow slithered forth from Necropolis Manor. Five Halloweens with each one getting better than the last. The last three years I’ve learned to create some really great things and I feel honored to have been able to share them with the many fine folk of the town of Windsor. While I truly enjoy creating all these wonderously dark creations its been the great families and children of Windsor that’s made it all worth while. I would also like to thank our wonderful, patient, and supportive neighbors who put up with the noise and bizaare contraptions while we built throughout the year.

But alas all things, good or bad, must come to an end. My family has outgrown the house and it’s come time to relocate to someplace that we can comfortably grow into.

We aren’t done with haunting just leaving this current location. I’ve already began conceiving concepts, lighting and sound schemes for the 2010 haunt. We are considering another location someplace in Windsor. But ultimately we’ll choose whatever is right for us (and for haunting hehe). We’ll most likely be here for another 6-8 months more while we research and all that fun stuff that comes with moving.

We have moved all haunt related details over to Necropolis Labs from this point forward. Over the coming weeks I’ll try and get as much as possible over in the way of pictures and details about the props I’ve built during the Necropolis Manor years. At that point this domain will then redirect to Necropolis Labs.  So be sure to head on over and check out what’s brewing.

And don’t for forget to follow me on twitter @terrormaster.

Thank you again Windsor for the privelege of haunting here for the last five years.
